"This is the first designated certified, green-built home in the whole [The New American Home] program, and Icynene® was a major part of that."
Alex Hannigan, builder of TNAH 2006 "We were delighted that Icynene
® was a team player with Goehring & Morgan on The New American Home 2005 project. Energy efficiency and indoor air quality are performance factors that are big issues to consider when deciding to use Icynene
® vs. the standard insulation material. Icynene
® helped us achieve an ENERGY STAR
® rating on The New American Home because of the efficiency of the home. We were recognized at the Southeast Builders Conference and given an Aurora Award for the ENERGY STAR
® rating."
Kim Goehring, builder of TNAH 2005
We have been using Icynene® insulation on all our custom renovation projects since 1998. We have found using it in renovations and new construction to save time (the rapid installation and short clean up time is a huge deciding factor for us) and we achieve a superior insulating job; no air leaks, no purlins needed for roof ventilation and no call backs for "hot or cold" spots often associated with conventional batt insulation. We have found it especially useful where one client had severe chemical sensitivity.

My wife Sandy and I live in rural Hubbard, Iowa. We live in a 32' by 42' Morton-style building that is attached to a larger machine shed. The 1,350 ft2 home has 10' walls and a 14' cathedral ceiling.
During the epic blizzard of 2007, we lost power in our home for 4 full days. It took until the end of the fourth day (when the power came back on) for the temperature to drop to 52 degrees. We used a 1 lb propane tank (similar to what you would use while camping) to run a very small heater each night, and that actually warmed up the whole house 2 degrees!
Last year, we only used 500 gallons of LP in 12 months to heat our home as well as all of our domestic hot water! We had Icynene sprayed throughout on all wall and roof areas. Our last home, which was 2,600 ft2 took 1500 gallons of LP for the year. Pretty amazing.
Icynene does what it says it will - it pays for itself in one year. I would recommend Icynene to anyone.
