Icynene fire compliance – meeting and exceeding expectations
Icynene’s fire compliance meets the requirements as stated in Chapter 26 of the International Building code by having many wall assemblies tested in accordance with and comply with the acceptance criteria of NFPA 285. Icynene is committed to working with architects to navigate the complex issue of Fire Compliance in exterior wall assemblies and NFPA 285.
We strive to help architects and building owners maximize their energy saving options with complete air barrier systems utilizing high quality Icynene spray foam insulation products on the interior, exterior or both sides of the wall assembly.
As a responsible manufacturer, we are adding to our library of complete fire compliant wall assemblies undertaking full assembly testing at one of the three approved labs for NFPA compliance. Currently, these five wall assemblies which combine engineering evaluations and NFPA 285 and ASTM E-119, with more on the way, through the testing process will offer increased design flexibility for architects concerned with the fire compliance of exterior wall assemblies.
What is continuous insulation?
Insulation is said to be continuous when it is installed on the exterior side of the base wall to reduce the effect of thermal bridging on the overall R-value of the assembly. If you want to avoid de-rated R-values of between 40-60% then you must have insulation which runs continuously across all structures without themal bridges, outside of fasteners and service openings.
