Energy ratings are a compelling way to explain the benefits of air-sealing. Icynene works with RESNET and their team of HERS raters to show homeowners how they can create a more energy efficient home using Icynene spray foam insulation.
What is a HERS Rater?
A HERS rater is certified by an accredited HERS (Home Energy Rating System) provider to inspect a home and determine its HERS rating.
What is a HERS Rating?
A Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating is similar to a miles-per-gallon rating on a car. It illustrates home performance in a way that the homeowner can understand. The home assessment provides a rating index of the house as it is, it recommends cost-effective energy upgrades, and more importantly, it estimates annual total energy costs for an existing home before and after upgrades.
What is the HERS Index?
The HERS index is the industry standard by which a home's energy efficiency is calculated and measured. A net zero home scores a HERS index of 0, and the “HERS Reference Home” which was built to the specs of the 2006 IECC has an index of 100. The lower the HERS score, the more energy efficient the home will be.
Three Good Reasons for Working with a HERS Rater
- Overcome key obstacles quickly. Let a HERS rater provide your client with an energy audit showing the amount of energy (and money) being wasted daily. The HERS rater can also provide an Energy Analysis report which highlights potential savings if suggested improvements are implemented.
- Improve the home’s functionality. The HERS Rater can help you by re-designing the HVAC system based on the air tightness levels achieved with an Icynene upgrade. The HERS Rater may also work with HVAC contractors to determine the appropriate sizing, layout, and room ventilation requirements to maximize indoor air quality and comfort.
- Establish 3rd party credibility. With an audit and an analysis in hand, the homeowner sees the financial gains of an insulation upgrade. The HERS Rater will recommend you for that upgrade.
