![]() | Background The dotCOM dreamHOME (dCdH) is the first of its kind Internet-driven home building project/experiment to be featured developed, and constructed online from concept to completion. Icynene participated by providing the spray-in-place polyicynene soft foam insulation. The home was constructed in Las Vegas using insulated concrete forms for the wall and a standard wood roof assembly |
![]() | Results By using Icynene®, the builders of the dreamHOME were able to eliminate insulating the attic floor entirely. Instead, they had the material spray-applied to the underside of the roof deck. By insulating the roof plane with Icynene®, any cooling losses from the HVAC system/ducts located in the attic were kept within the thermal envelope of the house.Once the home was insulated, many of the trades still working in the home commented on how quiet and cool the house was, even during the middle of the day. During the grand opening reception, full electrical power was not available to the home. With only 60% of the air conditioning operational, the home remained cool and comfortable in spite of the hundreds of guests and constant door opening. |
