Drafty Building, Dae Lim Acrovile, Korea





Background
A 47-storey condominium was constructed by Dae Lim in Korea. At the request of Dae Lim, Koins Inc. was brought in to provide insulation solutions for this project.

Situation
In certain areas of the exterior wall, the residents of the condominiums were experiencing significant cold drafts during the winter months. Upon removing the exterior cladding, significant amounts of moisture due to condensation was discovered in the space between the exterior cladding and the inner interior wall. Air leakage was causing the drafts and was responsible for the condensation/moisture.

Solution/Results
Exterior wall panels were removed to provide access to the cavity between the external and internal walls. Icynene® was then sprayed into the cavity to provide both conductive insulation and an air barrier. Those occupants in the units that had just been treated noted an immediate stop to the cold drafts that they had previously experienced.
