Strategies to Control Moisture

With all of the repercussions that a build-up of moisture can have in a home, it’s no wonder most homeowners are concerned about it. Whether it’s rotting wood in the structure of the building, mold in the walls, or mildew, too much moisture in the home needs to be addressed.

So how can you control the moisture your home? A great place to start is with the insulation.

Using spray foam insulation like Icynene, to seal the house of any small cracks or holes, can help to control moisture. It’s been proven by the Energy and Environmental Building Association, that a hole as small as one square inch will let in as much as 30 quarts of water, via air movement through that one hole. Imagine if the holes and cracks in your home add up to an even larger area!

By using spray foam insulation instead of standard  insulation materials, you can also help improve your home’s performance during storms and flooding. This is because Icynene insulation’s open cell foam allows for any water to drain, and therefore dry quicker. This is unlike traditional insulation types, which can often become damp or waterlogged with flooding. Additionally, closed cell foam insulation can reject bulk water making it ideal for use in basements and areas prone to flooding.
