| Make the Right Choice to Guard against Moisture Problems within the Building Envelope In a mixed climate (cold winters / warm humid summers) where the potential for moisture condensation is of significant concern to many builders and building stakeholders, Icynene has developed a set of animations that help explain moisture transfer and its potential impact on different wall systems in a northern U.S. region (Climate Zones 6+, >7200 HDD 65° F). The animation demonstrates that the potential for moisture ingress and build-up is actually much higher in wall systems that employ air-permeable insulation (like fiberglass or cellulose) and flash & batt systems; whereas Icynene® open-cell foam insulation facilitates better moisture management and increases the overall performance / degree of durability of the building envelope. The animation uncovers the various dynamics affecting moisture within a wall system, including: 1. Air leakage which carries airborne moisture into the wall system 2. Seasonal vapor drive which carries moisture into the wall system by diffusion The animation has three sections that take issue with the following wall systems: Air permeable insulation wall system |
