ICYNENE LD-R-50 spray foam insulation is a revolutionary, renewable-based formula. It provides the same great benefits of other open-cell Icynene spray foam insulation types while exceeding the renewable content specification of the USDA BioPreferredSM program and ICC-SAVE.
Open-cell
0.5 lb.
Light density
100% water-blown
HFC- and PBDE-free
A low-emitting material (LEM) as per CHPS EQ 2.2 Section 01350 (Collaborative for High Performance Schools)
Made with high-yield castor oil, reducing the need for petroleum-based polyol
The castor oil used in the making of ICYNENE LD-R-50 spray foam insulation is a natural substance so safe, it’s used in personal care products like lip balm. It's also 100% naturally filtered, with no chemical additives required, and there are many environmental reasons for using it in Icynene spray foam insulation:
Castor crops do not require irrigation, saving scarce water supplies.
Castor beans do not require pesticides or fungicides.
The production process has low energy-dependence, consisting of simple de-husking and pressing. Harvesting is manual.
It actually goes a longer way than soy-based insulating spray foam (about 40% yield by weight versus about 17%). Insulating a larger area with less insulating spray foam product also means more value per dollar.
Castor beans do not compete with food crops because they grow on different land.
Castor is a rapidly renewable material according to the USGBC definition, requiring a 10-year-or-less re-growth time frame.
