Sustainability Through Air-Sealing
Most insulation types only deliver R value, but building science teaches us that an air seal like that provided by Icynene spray foam insulation is vital for total building performance.
By protecting against air leakage, Icynene spray foam insulation can provide up to 50% energy savings, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by thousands of tons per year. The related monetary savings can exceed the insulation price in just three to four years on average.
This energy-saving air seal also seals out airborne pollutants, allergens and moisture, providing healthier indoor air and helping to prevent condensation and mold.
Furthermore, because Icynene spray foam insulation provides lasting R value plus air-sealing in a single step, it can reduce the amount of building materials required and help shorten construction schedules.

Sustainability Through Innovative Insulation Foam Spray Formulas
Many spray foam insulation products use HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) as blowing agents and contain PBDEs (polybrominated diphenylethers) for fire resistance. The problem is, HFCs have a high global warming potential (GWP), and PBDEs can be toxic to both humans and the environment.
All Icynene spray foam insulation products are PBDE-free, and several are also HFC-free. In fact, ICYNENE LD-R-50®, ICYNENE LD-C-50® and ICYNENE MD-R-200™ are 100% water-blown (with no synthetic blowing agents).
Specific Icynene products also offer additional environmental benefits. Consider ICYNENE MD-R-200™, made with up to 12.6% recycled plastic in the resin, reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills.
ICYNENE LD-R-50®, takes environmentally smart formulation even further with renewable-based content. Unlike any other spray foam insulation product, it’s made with castor oil rather than petroleum-based polyol. For every kilogram (2.2 lbs.) of castor oil produced in place of petroleum-based polyol, there is a reduction of nearly 3.5 kilograms (7.7 lbs.) of carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere.
