Scarano & Associates Architect's Office Brooklyn, NY | |
![]() | Background In 2003, the Architect firm Scarano & Associates began planning an addition to its existing office space. Situated at the top of a 100 year-old building, the only way to expand was upwards. The site offered great potential, with skyline views of New York City (the Manhattan Bridge on one side, and a busy expressway on the other). The design for such a powerful location, which thousands of people come across daily, presented an exciting challenge. In addition to its visual impact, the Scarano & Associates Architect's office addition would also serve as an instructional laboratory for structure and design. |
Solution / Results The strategy was to create a structure that no one could ignore. The leading concept was to sustain contextual elements on the site, and in contrast, take these elements and embed them in innovative architecture. Architect firm Scarano & Associates selected Icynene® soft foam insulation and air barrier material to alleviate concerns with disruptive noise levels, structural durability and energy efficiency.
