 | The Built Green Home is located in the premier four-season resort community of Suncadia, 80 miles from Seattle, Washington. Ultimately, the Suncadia Resort will contain a collection of distinct neighborhoods set amidst protected spaces, "where the ideals of the surrounding natural setting are in line with the green building ethic; where homes are designed to be comfortable, durable, environmentally-friendly and cost-effective to own and operate."1
Perched atop the 13th green on Suncadia's Prospector Golf Course, the 3,900-square-foot custom lodge-style home was designed to reflect its unique setting, in line with |
the ideals of the Built Green Program. Built Green is a non-profit, residential building program in Washington State that promotes environmentally-friendly home building methods and practices. Built Green homes are designed to be comfortable, durable and cost-effective to own and operate. These resource-efficient homes are crafted to exceed building codes and provide homeowners with years of healthy, quality living, while protecting the precious Northwest environment.
Following the parameters of the program, custom home builder CMI Homes, Inc. selected Icynene® spray foam insulation and air barrier system for the Built Green Home. Applied to the roof, walls, floors and crawl space, Icynene ensured an airtight building envelope - the key to energy efficiency. Combined with proper mechanical ventilation, Icynene also delivered superior indoor air quality and moisture control. Applying Icynene in the crawlspace and underneath the roof deck brings both of these spaces into the conditioned area, increasing the square footage of the living area. Despite this increase, air-sealing with Icynene allowed the builder to incorporate a smaller HVAC system. Grey Lundberg, President of CMI Homes, Inc. was very pleased with the result. "We set the goal of educating, raising awareness and creating demand for green building. The successes as a result of Build Green Home at Suncadia are many." |
 | The Built Green Home demonstrated that a spectacular, custom-built home, complete with the finest sustainable building products including Icynene, can provide value through sustainable, earth-friendly building. Once construction was completed, over 4,500 people toured the home. Tour participants were provided with a headset audio educational tour and a brochure highlighting the green features of the home. The home received coverage in numerous magazines, newspapers and newsletters. As a result of this achievement, Suncadia announced that the entire resort would be certified as a Built Green community. |
