Built for the Seattle Street of Dreams, The Urban Lodge showcase home is a environmentally-friendly contemporary lodge-style home highlighting the fiscal, environmental, health and lifestyle benefits of utilizing "green" materials and building techniques.

The custom-built 4,000 square foot home designed by the architectural firm Curtis Gelotte Architects and builder Grey Lundberg/ CMI Homes, Inc. provides value through sustainable building without sacrificing quality or comfort.

Built using sustainable practices, The Urban Lodge employs the latest cutting edge technologies in a future-home which is well designed, functional, has very low operating costs, is healthier for its owner, will last for generations without compromising the quality, and most of all – this home is “achievable” to a larger group of discriminating buyers.

Committed to continuous research of the latest technologies, Grey Lundberg/ CMI Homes, incorporated products, systems and techniques into this home which resulted in energy efficiency, superior indoor air quality, less moisture intrusion, reduced impact on the

“Icynene® minimizes moisture intrusion reducing the risk of mold growth” says Grey Lundberg of CMI Homes.

“Icynene® is 100% water-based and does not off-gas or emit any ozone-depleting substances. It helps improve the indoor air quality by minimizing the intrusion of outdoor allergens, odors and pollutants”

environment and the ability to withstand Pacific Northwest
climate conditions.

One such green product chosen by Grey Lundberg/ CMI Homes is Icynene® an open-cell spray foam insulation and air barrier material that significantly contributes towards achieving energy efficiency and a healthy indoor environment.

Icynene Licensed Dealer, Progressive Insulation was selected to spray the home after the construction began in December 2006.

“Icynene has been a wonderful company to work with. They show up on site when needed, keep to our building schedule and always have a prompt response to questions and phone calls” says Jayme Mattson, Director of Operations for Grey Lundberg/ CMI Homes.

The shingle-style home has a bonus room over the garage, and a private, covered entertainment area. When sprayed in the interior and the exterior walls, Icynene® expands to 100 times its initial volume creating a superior air-seal for minimizing air infiltration.

The Urban Lodge has vaulted ceilings which lent itself well to the spray foam application. In the crawlspace, Icynene® created a conditioned area for HVAC equipment, allowing it to operate more efficiently. By placing the heating and cooling equipments in the sealed crawlspace, homeowners will be able to save on energy usage by up to 50%.

Energy Star® labeled for the Energy Star Homes Northwest® program, the energy efficiency of the home is well above a typical home insulated with conventional insulation materials. This home not only meets but surpasses the energy  requirements set forth by IECC by 30%.

Icynene® also provides a quieter home because of its ability to dampen the sounds originating from the entertainment room, plumbing chases, home theatre etc. “The sound deadening of the Icynene® spray foam product far surpasses anything I have found in the building industry in last 30 years” says Bob Kriebel, Superintendent for Grey Lundberg/ CMI Homes.

The construction of The Urban Lodge was completed in July 2007. On August 10 The Urban Lodge won 11 awards in 10 distinct categories. The home was chosen as “Best of Show” and “Most Environmentally Conscious Home”. The public selected this home for “Best Use of Technology”, “Best Outdoor Living”, “Most Eco-Friendly Home” and “Best of Show.”

The Urban Lodge is Gold Star Verified through the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines and certified as the Five Star showcase home, the highest level of the Built Green Certification program of the Master Builders Association Built Green Program of King and Snohomish Counties.
