![]() ![]() | The Challenge. The goal of the Geni-G home was to introduce green homes to production home buyers and to conserve energy on a large scale by building energy efficient homes by the hundreds. Environmental options ranged from carpet made from recycled plastic bottles to an energy efficient heating and cooling system that experts say will cut energy bills in half. One particular product offering is Icynene®, a soft expanding foam insulation and air barrier material that protects Geni-G homeowners against the harmful outdoor environment and energy-robbing air leakage. The Result. Healthy indoor air. WCI Communities specified products with minimal off-gas. And as a 100% water-blown material, Icynene® contains no harmful gases and does not sacrifice the quality of the indoor air. Icynene® airseals the envelope and minimizes the intrusion of outdoor allergens and pollutants. Combined with proper mechanical ventilation, Icynene® helps control the quality of the home's indoor environment. Energy savings. Geni G will save $431 every year in energy bills through green features like Icynene®. Icynene® was sprayed to the underside of the roof, making the attic part of the conditioned space. This means that the mechanical system doesn't have to work as hard to heat or cool the home. Even though two air conditioners would normally be required to serve a 1,555 sq. ft. structure like Geni-G, the home only needed one, providing additional savings during construction. |
