HVAC & Ventilation with Spray Foam
Could your homes have oversized HVAC equipment? Icynene recommends right-sizing your HVAC equipment by completing a home heat loss calculation that is available from the CSA – Canadian Standards Association (CAN/CSA F280) or from the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI).
The air-tightness of a home is increased significantly with the use of spray foam insulation, so it is necessary to consider mechanical ventilation in the construction or renovation of any home in Canada. Many modern mechanical ventilation options exist; an HVAC contractor should be able to present them.
For renovations using spray foam insulation, homes typically show an improvement in air-tightness, and mechanical ventilation options will need to be considered. Canadian standards as defined by ASHRAE Standard 62.2, Canadian Standards Association Standard (CAN/CSA –F326) and the National Building Code of Canada have all established recommended levels of air exchange.
